our green st. patrick's day

Today, five youth spent their Saturday clearing debris from the gardens and planting our first round of veggies - lettuce, peas, radishes and carrots.  We can't wait until this patch is covered in green!

spicing things up

Six youth from Cary Home programs started growing tomato and pepper seeds this past week in anticipation of our biggest vegetable garden yet.  They used a technique similar to the one described here. We'll let you know how it works for us.

They were especially interested in growing peppers - the hotter the better.  Looks like we're due for some spicy meals this summer!

Today Bennett's generously donated hundreds of dollars worth of fruit, vegetable, herb and flower seeds.  We can't wait to get them in the ground! Thank you to Bennett's for supporting Cary Homegrown and the youth of Tippecanoe County!

let's grow

It may be covered in snow right now, but we know in a few months our garden will look like this again!

For the past few years, the youth in programs at Cary Home have worked with staff and community volunteers to grow a small kitchen garden of vegetables and herbs.  Each year we have been able to add more space for plantings and increase our harvest - and we think this will be our best year yet.   We hope you'll check back often and watch our garden grow.
